Though not a very long book, Holy Cow is a thoroughly enjoyable if surreal read. I won't go into the plot because you can read that in the description, but let me say that it doesn't do the story justice. I was completely and immediately immersed in Elsie Q's story and adventures, no matter how crazy or implausible they were--and trust me, they were. The dialog is crisp and never out of character, and the story moves along nicely even in quiet scenes; while I wouldn't call it a page-turner, I also didn't put it down until I finished it. I laughed out loud quite a few times, especially in the parts about the mohel, and yet I came out of the book with a real sense of contemplation regarding how animals are treated all around the world, as well as how humans treat each other over the smallest, and most ridiculous, differences. I highly recommend this book if you'd like something a little different, which is both light-hearted and amusing yet deep and thoughtful. I can only hope that...
