Not hilarious, yet a lot of fun.
Patton Oswalt is one of my top five all-time favorite stand-up comedians. That said, most of this book isn’t funny, so don’t expect this to be a few hours of belly laughs. However, all the things Patton is passionate about I am also passionate about. In that way, this was like listening to a monologue of someone I’d consider a friend because of our similar interests and because I respect his opinion and insight. Obviously, given the name of the book, he talks a lot about film, but also art – art in general and the kind hung on museum walls. And of course, comedy. I love reading about people who stick it out and ultimately make it in the arts. My favorite quote is from when he’s describing a group who’d moved to LA to see if they could make it in TV and film: “We’d piss and moan ... pointing out how unfair and whimsical and chaotic the entertainment business was, how it rarely rewarded the truly talented. When I was 9 years old, my first exposure to wrestling was watching the 1995 Royal Rumble where Shawn Michaels won the Rumble match even though he was the Number 1 entrant. Ever since, Shawn Michaels has been my favorite wrestler.

I found this book to provide good insight into a man who hit a low-point in his life, and the ways he came around to overcoming the obstacles to his happiness. The only complaint I would have about the book was that it was quite short, and there were many parts where he just glossed over some topics without going into more detail about them.

Regardless, this book isn't primarily one about wrestling. It's more about a story of how one's priorities in life change, and just one example of how one comes to their own happiness.

I would like to comment on an earlier review where a person said that liberal Non-Believers should not read this book. I am an agnostic who leans heavily towards atheism, and yet, I still found great value...

As a fan of Ghost Adventures I have to say that I did enjoy this book, perhaps more so than his first one and think most GA fans would agree. He has a very conversational way of writing and it's a fast read, filled with humor, creepy stories and philosophical views about spirituality, the meaning of life and the mystery of death. Zak is extremely passionate about his work and even if you are a non-believer (though you probably wouldn't be reading this in the first place) you can't help but be intrigued and drawn into his stories because of this enthusiasm. As a believer in the paranormal, I still found some of the experiences hard to believe on the one hand (because I haven't had anything similar happen to me) but Zak comes across as so authentic and honest that even the more incredible and wild stories about possessions and demons that first had me thinking, yeah, right, left me a bit uneasy and later thinking, hmmm, maybe I'm wrong.
